The bolts do have to be reloaded, but everything else is energy based and comes from.. a battery? Something like a battery in the core of the weapon. The bolts also explode when they impact something, and are not reusable. The weapon does make the bolts itself- can use about any materials to load into it to keep all firing modes stable… It is an interesting piece of work. 22:05:23

It only happens if you load it with too much material. It usually keeps itself cool and charges on its own, anytime its not actively firing. But if the plasma builds up too high it will overheat. 22:48:50
